Child obesity has grown considerably due to unhealthy weight gain and is responsible for 300,000 deaths each year. It is estimated that an annual cost of society for obesity is $100 billion. Overweight children are more likely to become overweight adults and will die at age 55 through falling ill or suicide. The study of child obesity is so compelling that the New England Journal of Medicine has taken time to research thousands of children and follow through with them.

Late night talk shows and stand up comedians around the country have been the source of cheap laughs throughout the years. However; child obesity is no laughing matter in America. Some risks and complications of obesity are increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes to name a few. So, perhaps our first lady, Michelle Obama, is following her campaign in child obesity in getting Americans to eat healthier.
