If you want to sleep better at night you must be proactive about making this a reality. Try not to eat snacks right before bedtime especially those food items that are high in sugar. This will elevate your blood sugar levels and make it more difficult for you to sleep well. Try to sleep in complete darkness whenever possible because a small amount of light in your room can throw off your circadian rhythm. Also minimize the amount of light in your bathroom if you frequently make bathroom trips at night. Turning on the light in the middle of the night disrupts production of an important hormone known as melatonin. Don’t watch TV right before going to bed or a better idea is to completely remove the TV from your bedroom. Television is too stimulating to the brain, which makes it more difficult to fall asleep. Improve your sleep environment by investing in a good bed pillow that provides good support as well as a mattress.
